FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Virtual Technologies, Ltd. announces
solar powered product aimed at
cargo-tracking market.
Spokane, WA – January 15, 2001
Virtual Technologies, Ltd. announced
today that it will begin testing a solar
powered product aimed at the supply chain
management market. The system utilizes
Virtual Technologies’ patent pending
communications and GPS technology to provide
real-time or historical movement information
of cargo containers. Consumers can use
Virtual Technologies’ Web-based tracking and
mapping interface to track movement and view
cargo door alarm information.
According to a July 1998 Strategis Group
report on Automatic Vehicle Location, total
revenues for this market segment equaled
$418 million in 1998 and revenues are
forecasted to grow to $1.5 billion in 2003.
The Stratis Group forecasts the penetrable
market for automatic vehicle location (AVL),
commercial fleet tracking and asset (cargo)
tracking to be over $3.5 billion per year in
a mature market. According to the Stratis
Group study, AVL is poised to become the
first “killer app” for both wireless
location and mobile data services.
While there are over 100 AVL providers
worldwide, they have focused on high-priced
satellite-based wireless communications.
This positions Virtual Technologies, by it
adoption of cost-effective cellular data
communication, to capture large segments of
the cargo tracking and AVL market. Virtual
Technologies is prepared to take advantage
of advances in wireless networks, plummeting
GPS chip prices, and manufacturing economies
of scale associated with Virtual Arrest™ to
bring to market the Virtual Track™
Business-to-Business cargo tracking and
supply chain management solution. AVL
revenues for commercial fleets and trailer
tracking are expected to grow from today’s
$367 million to over $1 billion by 2001.
